In celebration of the first anniversary of Peter’s Ashtray—thank you each and every one for your congratulatory cards, letters and heartfelt sentiments—I have decided to publish this forgotten picture from my archives.
While these two obviously look gay, it is impossible to determine conclusively from this picture whether they are, in fact, gay. Even though many of the characteristics of gayness are present (peculiar clothing, visible expressions of affection and tennis) I am reminded not to judge a book by its cover. Still there is a certain tilt of the head and a
philos effusio in expression. On the other hand one must consider the setting, The Protestant Vatican 1976, where gays would have been prohibited.
You be the judge.
