The Wine Bar

Last Friday Mrs. Yak and I were coming out of our favorite restaurant after a wonderful meal when we passed by a wine bar.

Through the open door we saw our church’s music minister inside entertaining friends. (If I further explain that we attend a Baptist church of the Conservative Baptist denomination, I’m sure you will immediately appreciate the significance of this happenstance.)

Rather than cause embarrassment we quickly turned away to walk around a large fish tank in the middle of the mall concourse. Walking one way and looking behind us at the minister we failed to notice a chair. If not for my lightning quick reflexes Mrs. Yak might have fallen flat on her face. As it was, I caught her arm and averted a nasty spill and certain discovery.

Continuing our promenade, arm-in-arm to the exit, Mrs. Yak observed, "I think our minister just caused us to stumble!"

Good one! She beat to the punch! I was already composing my comment on causing people to stumble when I came to the end. You guys are just a little too quick for me!

Our church uses 2 jumbotrons to Powerpoint the lyrics to our congregational theme songs and this morning I just stood there in a stupor that I usually reserve for Family Weekend at the Harvard of Christian Schools. As plain as the score at the Dodger/Padre game were the words to "Roll out the Barrel" and "99 bottles of beer...". Of course I'm jesting, but this is obviously the road your church is heading and I'm scared, very scared. Cheers!

You guys are losing a step here. I've been waiting for someone to say something about what might have been in the punch (see first comment).

YB...I can understand your folks at good ol' EV Free needing the lyrics to "Roll Out the Barrel," because most of them have never had "a barrel of fun," but come on, everyone knows the lyrics to 99 Bottles of Beer!

And, are the Dodgers going to let us down again? They're killing me!

Good one from me too! But, you don't tell us if the youth minister had a glass of wine. I smell 'coverup.'

(You know, sometimes I wonder if yb isn't the more insane one. Is there some way of finding out without him knowing? And of course he conveniently leaves out the part where he actually started singing "Roll Out the Barrel" in his loudest Jim Morrison imitation voice and caused much worry among the Elders. This time, his lovely wife was able to say it was their long, pressure-cooker week at the Wharton School of Business that caused him to snap like that. But, what if it happens again? You know it will. Few people get 'less crazy' as they age rapidly. You bet I'm concerned!)

On a totally unrelated, yet related to my relations basis I hereby share the following bid of tid, or tidbit as the humans say: let's file this under expensive habits and link it to whatever link you like.

Today I was meeting with some clients and they shared their budget with me. Being that I am a CFP(R) (as is Saginaw Sister) I should probably be looking at a lot more budgets than I do on a regular basis...and we all like to be regular.

This particular budget showed a monthly allowance for cigarettes and my immediate reaction was the fact that I thought the SC spent a great deal more than they did on this substance. This client buys one carton of smokes each week with a monthly budget somewhere near $50, does that make sense?

I told him to start reading the Smoking Christian & Affiliates Blogspots and then to start adding a grandiose allowance for alcohol consumption to top off his tobacco trysts.

He is all for the idea, but we still need to convince his lovely wife...

Did somebody say Wine Bar? With over 45 wineries located in the Yukimoo Valley it is time for you Yaks to join the non-denominationalists and have an occasional glass (for your stomach - 1Tim 5:23).

Heck, have a few, then you will have a legitimate reason for stumbling!
